I wanted to do the Family Nurse Practitioner prior to wanting the IBCLC, but
on some level, I know that I will need the FNP in addition to the IBCLC
cred. because without it, I will get little collegial acknowledgment in
terms of some MD's being willing to hear me. That - in and of itself is SAD!
But it is reality.
I agree that the IBCLC needs a tier or two! Maybe a Lactation
Practioner/Lactation Nurse Practitioner (which would encompass both lay and
nurse people much as the certified midwife/certified nurse midwife does) at
the grad/postgrad level would be an appropriate course to have available.
Just my thoughts...
