...and you choose to send them a(nother) letter, you might wish to include a
citation of US Surgeon General David Satcher's statement on breastfeeding
available at the beginning of the HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding
from 2000.

----------------
"Breastfeeding is one of the most important contributors to infant health.
Breastfeeding provides a range of benefits for the infant's growth,
immunity, and development. In addition, breastfeeding improves maternal
health and contributes economic benefits to the family, health care system,
and workplace...

...During the past 15 years, the Office of the Surgeon General has
highlighted the public health importance of breastfeeding...

...In 1990, the United States recognized the importance of breastfeeding by
signing the Innocenti Declaration on the Protection, Promotion, and Support
of Breastfeeding adopted by the World Health Organization and United Nations
Children's Fund. (UNICEF). Concurrently, the US Department of Health and
Human Services, through its Healthy People 2000 and subsequently Healthy
People 2010, established breastfeeding objectives for the early postpartum
period, at 6 months postpartum, and at 1 year postpartum. In addition,
recognition of the benefits of breastfeeding has led to the adoption of
breastfeeding policies by many health and professional organizations in the
United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Academy of Family
Physicians, the American Dietetic Association, the American College of
Nurse-Midwives, the National Medical Association, and the American Public
Health Association....

        David Satcher, MD, PhD
Assistant Secretary for Health and Surgeon General
US Department of Health and Human Services"
2000 - preface to HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding

But I suppose Dr. Boris Petrikovsky from Nassau probably knows better than
Dr. David Satcher, so maybe he is in fact a better citation for the
magazine. Silly me.

Incidentally, if anyone would like a copy of the Blueprint to have and to
hold, please email me and I can get one out to you.
