Dear Friends:
I posted yesterday about the mother who had weaned after 2 days. I made
the home visit today. She decided to keep the baby on formula; she had nursed
her first child for a month, and weaned to formula when that first baby 'got
fussy'. Formula works wonders. Baby chugs down 4 ounces every 3 hours, and the
mother is happy.
DAMN!
She does switch sides for each feeding, and never props the bottle. She
was using soy formula; I recommended Good Start as that is the only formula
with any evidence behind it (the 5-year Chandra study), plus little mammals
should at least get mammal milk and not plant products.
However, I feel good that at least I spoke truth to her. So she has made
her choice.
warmly,
