I need help in making recommendations to a mother going home feeding her infant continuous feedings of breast milk. Right now, the nursery is using the large enteral feeding bags and a feeding pump. My question is--Is this the best container to use for running the tube feeding? How long can the bag be used? Is it OK just to rinse out the bag/tubing say every 4 hours and re-use it maybe for 24/48 hours? What I am worried about is contamination of the milk and also loss of fat during feeding.. I hope some of you in clinical settings with experience can help me. This is the first time I have had to send a baby home on continuous tube feeds. Thanks so much.
