I don't have the reference in front of me, but if you go to the AAP web site
and search under policies, there was one on Hypoallergic formulas a few years
ago. I order hypoallergenic formulas (when the Mom does not choose to use
pasteurized donor milk) because:
1. Reduces bilirubin faster than standard formulas
Gourley GR. NeoReviews Feb 2000; 1(2): e25-30
2. Does not expose the infant to cow's milk protein (especially in
allergy-prone families)
3. ••Tastes terrible – infant will want to go back to breast
4. •Very expensive – parents will not want to use it long term
5. •Conveys the message that this is a different, temporary therapy, not
routine formula feeding
