Colostrum is higher in protein, but still has carbohydrates. FYI, you don't give a diabetic a candy bar for hypoglycemia. It is recognized that a glass of milk--which has a combination of carbohydrate and protein is a far better alternative to the usual orange (or whatever type) juice. That will maintain the normal blood sugar longer. In our institution, the policy is to offer two breastfeeds for hypoglycemia before giving formula.
