Subject: LACTNET Digest - 23 Aug 2003 - Special issue (#2003-1142)
Once again Barbara Wilson Clay has eloquently stated our role as IBCLCs. I
absolutely agree that LCs are feeding experts who are needed for the non
normal feeding situation. We work to get the non normal to normal. To
accomplish this, it may be necessary to use appropriate intervention- tools
including nipple shields, supplementers, pumps, sometimes even bottles,
formula whatever it takes to get the baby back to normal and to the breast.
I have had great satisfaction hearing from mothers who needed lots of help
"and tricks" go on to breastfeed fully and continue for a year or more.
