Hi All
Here in Australia(at least in New South Wales) ,we have Early Childhood
Health Centres which are staffed by specially trained nurses to see babies
& children up to 5 years.
They run mothers groups, check growth & development & help with
feeding(including breastfeeding) & sleep & settling problems(among other
things).
Did you ever, or do any of you have something similar in your countries?I
am guessing this is not the case in the US from what you have been writing.
These centres could (& sometimes are) a great opportunity to promote
breastfeeding, but unfortunately this is not always (or even often in some
areas) the case.Change is slow & formula as being of no harm is still
deeply entrenched in some areas. It is quite disheartening to work in a
maternity hospital where the majority start out breastfeeding & then work
in the community & see how briefly they continue to breastfeed(though i
have noticed a slight shift lately.
Interested to hear what happens in your part of the world.
