Hello all.

I have read Dr. Newman's technique of "breast compression" and have used it
sucessfully with the patients who have trie it. However, in reading
the "Core Curriculum" it is referred to as "alternate massage". I
understand this difference in terms is merely a difference, the two seem to
be interchangeable.

Something I was taught by my coworkers is that "alternate massage" is when
the breast that is not being suckled is massaged while the infant suckles
the other breast. I was told (and it makes sense) that the extra
stimulation can increase the MER and possibly the total volume produced.

My question: does anyone know the name of this technique of massaging
the "other" breast?

Thanks to all who write in response (post or email privately, your choice).
