I am starting to work on the same thing, but I'm stuck on the first concept:
Colostrum (first milk, pre-milk fluid) is both food and 'medicine'. Baby
needs as much as he can get. Breasts were made to release milk for a baby's
suck. It means nothing if you can't get it out with your hands or a pump -
that's a learned skill - baby can always get more / what he needs. (if he's
latched well, but that's another statement) Yes, it's there, even if you
don't 'feel full'.
Now put that into a simple 4th grade level statement & translate into
Spanish.
I have to come up with "10 Basic Phrases" in Spanish for the nurses to say
to the mothers about breastfeeding. I think I want to say "too much" in
each phrase.
I KNOW! Your jaws are on the floor. Close your mouthes! These are my
marching orders. I & my LC Team are on a project to teach Mat-Child staff
everything they need to know about BFing in a 2.5 hour session / seminar
this month so they can properly help the mothers in the 'other 23 hours' of
the day. Our project began July 1 and ends Dec 31 and Admin expects to see
an increase in ##s of exclusive BFing moms. Currently, our 'exclusive'
range is 0-3 per month even though our initiation rate is 75%. And they
will NOT dispense with the Transition Nursery.
