Don't know if this would relate to a difference in brands, but when
a mom tells me a shield or pump flange is making her sore and the
problem doesn't appear to be related to size of the mom's nipple, I
usually find it helps for mom to "lubricate" the fnalge or shield.
She can take a few drops of colostrum or water and spread in inside
the shield.  Then it will move slightly with baby's sucking.  While
most don't need this, I do find that when this helps, the breast was
"sticking" to the inside of the shield or flange and creating a lot
of tension on tissue that wasn't intended to be stretched so much.
