Thanks Barbara for your excellent "Lobbying 101". I think many of us don't
do anything because we don't know how to begin. I do think our own
legislature in Ariz offers workshops on how to get a bill passed. I suspect
you don't get the whole story there, but now I'm motivated to check it out
again.

Don't you also have to be sure your group is set up with the appropriate
non-profit designation?
Most affiliates and LLL are 501(c)3 and they are allowed minimal to NO
lobbying activities.
If you want to lobby for breastfeeding issues as a group, under a group
name, rather than as a bunch of individual LCs, I think you need a 501(c)4
designation.

I think (I don't KNOW) that, for example, NABA is 501(c)3 and NABA-REAL is
501(c)4.
LLLI is 501(c)3 and never participate in political activities. Individuals
within LLLI have spoken out, testified, etc, but the organization as an
entity has not and cannot.

Lawyers out there? Help? Thanks.

Phyllis
(former LLLL for many years)
