Hi, All:  To continue the thread, I recall reading something from Ruth
Lawrence, I believe, in which she stated that a hospital should have 1.0 LC
FTE for every 1000 births, total births not just breastfeeding births.  How
many hospitals can say they follow this guideline?

Because I am the director of our hospital's lactation program, I have
management responsibilities as well as direct patient care responsibilities
and I average 15 mothers/day on M/B as well as an average daily census of 4-
5 SCN babies, as well as charting on afore-mentioned patients, phone calls,
a weekly mother's support group, you get the picture.  Part of the problem
is we all handle impossible work loads because we don't want to shortchange
mothers and their babies.  But our managers see the work being done, so
don't see the need for a change.

Document, document, document is what eventually will change things.
