Since herbs are officially listed in food item categories, I would think
suggesting their use is no more "wrong" for LCs/RNs/non-MD HCPs than
suggesting any other food item. Until the FDA reclassifies herbs as a
controlled substance, we should be able to recommend their use to those who
might benefit. The responsibilities that go with this (taking a good medical
history, finding out why the supply dropped in the first place, discussing
all the options, etc.) would help to keep the suggestion is the right
perspective.
