Is this mom being treated for a specific condition, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis? The doc appears to be unaware of the research re: decalcification during lactation followed by improved recalcification post-lactation, which isn't surprising as I know few to no orthopedic guys who studied the relationship of lactation and their field of medicine.

I don't know why we always feel the onus is on us to "prove" BF is OK. BF is the species norm. This "expert" should have lots of evidence-based info to support his recommendations. If I was a monm, I'd be wanting copies to review so I could make an informed decision -- since it would be mine, not the doc's, to make... My guess is that the doc will be hard pressed to come up with anything to support his theory, but he might learn something if he's the one checking the medical lit vs. a LC doing his work for him.

Where do they come up with this stuff?

Karen
