A baby who is taking 10 or so sucks without the shield is compromised in
*some* way. It is hard to know which way, but try breast compression, or
adding flow to the breast with a simple feeding tube, a la Jack Newman
MD, (www.breastfeedingonline.com, Cindy's fine pages).....and this
should help. Watch that the baby can handle the added flow, as this baby
obviously has something going on, and needs careful watching, frequent
weights, latch assistance, and first and foremost, nutritional support
until he/she grows into feeding more efficiently. The mother needs to be
pumping, and getting good and frequent stimulation, and perhaps other
additional support for supply until this situation comes together.
