For anyone who does finger feeding , what procedure do you use? Even though we have a policy in place that describes the procedure ( tube attached to syringe and when baby sucks correctly, bolus is given by pushing gently on the plunger, stop when baby stops sucking etc.) a gravity method was taught to some staff where the syringe is held up without the plunger in , like gavage feeding. My thoughts are that the baby is supposed to control the feeding, not have the fluid flowing in the mouth and have the baby respond by keeping up with that flow. Any input would be appreciated. We are redoing our policies at this time.
