Mellanie,
Your Mom sounds very much like an overactive letdowner likely combined with
overproducer and should be congratulated for having figured this out *by
herself*!
 Would definitely go with the 1 breast used multiple times/ til she feels
very *empty* or the other side is uncomfortably full, whichever comes first. She
may want to pump that *other* side prior to attachment, as the letdown will
undoubtedly be excessive without. Questions by you aimed at determining how much
of a factor overproduction is, should be helpful in her management as well.
While reaffirming the importance of the above to Mom, it may also be helpful
to suggest that the baby should span his feeds a little more once the above
begins to work. Something that I'm sure will be very reassuring to a Mom feeding
so frequently (and may increase her compliance!)
Someone suggested a regime from a website directing;
 >>increase time on one breast by one hour every 3 -4
days, only as long as she doesn't see any improvement.<<
This seems unnecessarilly slow ?!

As for the poster who suggested *lactose intolerance*. In this case (as in
most) it is very likely a lactose overload intolerance as infants manufacture
lactase in their intestinal tract and have plenty for the norm.

someone also posts;
>>One suggestion that helped me help others was
encouraging mom to pump up to half of the time she normally feeds and then
put baby to the breast<<
What do you do about the fact that this continues or even worsens the
overproduction issue?
