I've also been wondering if there are any ultrasound studies of *sucking*
on a straw that can be compared with *suckling* at the breast. I've seen
lovely images of suckling with descriptions of what is happening (see pp.
108-113 in the second edition of Breastfeeding and Human Lactation), but
have never seen comparable images or descriptions for sucking. If they
exist, such a comparison might be useful in evaluating the appropriateness
of an abrupt weaning after tonsillectomy.
