I would also like to thank Jennifer for sharing the story about the mom and 2 year old, who had once been on very shaky ground and, if not for her help, might not have made it.  Early breastfeeding failure causes the loss of SO much!  

One of the main reasons that I am so adamant that adoptive moms should put getting feeding and nurturing at the breast first, before milk production is to help preserve the chance for going on to toddler nursing.  We see far too many, these days, who put milk production first, and end up doing more pumping that nursing; a setup which never lasts more than a matter of months.
