I had a mom call yesterday who has a rash all over her breast. But not on
the areola and nipple area. And no where else on her body. She has been to
her OB/GYN, her Internist, and a Dermatologist. When I ask her what the
Dermatologist said she replied, "Are you ready for this?" He said,"you are
allergic to something". He told her to rub different things that touch her
breast against her arm and if her arm breaks out then she will know what it
is. She is MISERABLE with itchiness. The baby is 3 months. She is ready to
stop breastfeeding. But she doesn't really want her baby getting formula yet
either. She talks as if in one month she won't be able to pump at work much
so formula might be ok at that point. (Of course I tried to convince her
otherwise) At one point the OB/GYN gave her one diflucan pill and the rash
seemed to have subsided but it came right back. She got another pill but
nothing happened. I just can't imagine that it is yeast when she doesn't
have any sore nipples and the areola and nipple are fine. I have only spoken
to this mother over the phone. I had her call one of our local LLL leaders,
who is an IBCLC,. (Pam M. did she call you?) to see if she has ever had a
mom with similar symptoms. This mommy is hanging in there but she has had
enough of this rash
