Catherine, we must have had similar days yesterday! First I walk into a
nursery (we have 4 plus NICU) to get a chart and there is a baby, 4 days old,
under a TWO bili lights with a bili of 14.0! Mom is supplementing
Pedialyte! Per Dr. orders! I always carry the AAP guidelines on bili levels
with me, so at least I educated the nurse as to why I was hyperventilating.
That was my first little mild heart attack, then I walk in the office and
pick up phone messages. My next little stroke. One of my moms from support
group, 11 1/2 old, has a little viral bug, so he is having diarrhea. What
does the Ped tell mom to do? Yep, STOP breastfeeding. Oh, it gets better.
She needs to feed soy formula or soy milk to the baby!! She argued that her
milk is best and he stated "It is milk and you can't drink milk when you have
a virus". I just wanted to pass out, but I think I let out a high pitched
"WHAT?!" I guess it is good to know I wasn't the only one having a severe
rise in blood pressure.
