Well, I could add my anecdotal evidence of 2 children...both of whom had
sucking blisters (so did I, my mom says, but I have no idea how I nursed
;-)), and both of whom have always had "sub-optimal shallow" latches.
:-( They don't hurt me, but they don't open wide. Probably b/c of the
massive flow of milk, they don't need to. I know I noticed that Nyssa
was at least a month old, perhaps more, before she really had to
actually *suckle* in order to feed enough to satisfy her. Before that,
she flutter-sucked, or half-heartedly sucked a bit to get the MER and
then swallowed the bolus of milk. I didn't ever feel her actually
creating any negative pressure or doing much to compress the nipple to
get it to squirt out even more. ;-)

Except with Colstrumof course, which only lasted 36 hours tops, anyhow.
