I think that it is regretable that discussion of the
American/Iraqi conflict has been silenced on Lactnet.
When a subscriber recently posted about her friend who
is a POW and his breastfeding wife, the moderator
admonished that Lactnet was not the forum for the War.
I was surprised that there were no inquires made about
the POW's lactating wife and baby. No expression of
interest or concern of how this event impacts her
breastfeeding? Has her MER been affected? does she
have support on the military base? could we help her
in some way? No. Lactnet is not the place for this. It
is too political. What?

I understand that Lactnet is NOT a forum for politics
or a war discussion, but there can be a great deal
learned about stress & separation, deprivation,
illness/injury, refugee conditions, terrorism, etc
brought about by war (on all sides)and the impact on
lactation. Instead of turning away from the crisis at
hand, I think that breastfeeding advocates around the
world could use the internet, Lactnet specifically, to
help women, to protect breastfeeding and babies, and
to learn.

Subscribers would need to be thoughtful in their
posts, keeping them on breastfeeding topics, not the
conflict, not the emotional issues, but on technical
and therapeutic matters. WE can keep the peace and
continue our breastfeeding work.

Respecting all, Anne Andrianos RN, IBCLC, LLL
