I think I can finally put all this concern about "prescribing fenugreek"
to rest. One thing everyone learns, if you're in this business long
enough... you learn more from your clients than you do from any book or
lecture. I had a client call me awhile ago who was struggling with her
milk supply... I gave her the usual suggestions, such as feed baby
frequently, get rest... baby honeymoon etc. I also suggested she talk
to her Dr. about Reglan... and it's side affects, fenugreek too.
Whenever I suggest trying fenugreek I warn mom of the usual side
affects, suggest they talk to their Dr. if they have any health
problems, caution about watching for symptoms of allergies and send a
copy of Dr. Hales comments from his book... and I told her to call me if
she needed more help. About a week or so later I called the mom back to
see how she was doing and she said she was doing so much better, and
thanked me for the suggestions.... she said her husband who just happens
to be an accomplished chef just happened to have some fenugreek in his
spice drawer and she said they put a few tlbs or so in their hamburger
helper.... low and behold she had full breasts and ample milk the next
morning.... she started taking the herb regularly and has seen great
results. So, I suggest we all go buy a supply of fenugreek at our local
health food outlet and start adding it to our hamburger helper,
spaghetti sauce, or tacos.... next time any Dr. gives you flack... let
him know you have a wonderful recipe that uses fenugreek and nobody in
your family has suffered yet. So, next time we have a cook book, I'll
be glad to add my hamburger helper recipe!!! I also have a recipe for
cornbread that calls for 3 tlbs of baking powder (sodium bicarbonate....
used in codes... so maybe this recipe is prescribing too!!)
