i am a hospial based rn, and i do admit, there are many
procedures/requirements to be done prior to discharge. thus, making the hospital nurse "busy". it
can be difficult to educate new moms between visitors, phone calls, etc. and
moms do not stay in the hospital much more than 24-48 hrs. however, it is also
the responsibility of the parents to educate themselves prior to delivery.
it is amazing the number of new moms who are putting their new infants to
breast, who do not have a clue to basics. follow-up after discharge is very
important, and i think this gets missed as well.
so much for my small soap box.
