Help an addled Lactnetter. My search of the archives and Medline gives me
lots of interesting stuff ... but not the nugget I yearn for.

Where is "the study" that tells us that promotion/ support of BF in the
prenatal days, *BY THE DOCTORS/NURSES*, increases the likelihood that mom
will happily BF?

Background: I attended yesterday (as an observer) a 60-minute BF
presentation by a resident to the other doctors on the staff at our
hospital's local family practice clinic. It would have brought tears to the
eyes of just about any IBCLC to hear the caliber of the presentation, and of
the questions/comments posed by the staff. These guys *get it.* I could
not correct a thing that was said. Well .... there was the diagram of the
grape-cluster-lactiferous-sinuses, but I didn't go into it.

I did tell these docs that they are in a unique position: because they see
moms prenatally *and* after the baby is born, they are specially poised to
positively influence mom's decision to BF. Even something so quick and
simple as asking "What have you done to get ready to breastfeed?" (versus
"Do you plan to breast- or bottle-feed?") can have a positive impact.

One of the doctors said she'd like to see a study done that shows such
prenatal contacts by a medical professional really does have a positive
impact on BF ... esp. when the population (like theirs) has many young
(teen) and low-income patients.

I smugly said, "Why, it's already been done! Let me get that for you!" And
now, I can't seem to find "it."

Are any of you better nugget-finders than I?
