Hi lactnetters,
I have searched the archives for effexor as I have a mom who is being
put on it (baby about 9 weeks old) and was told to stop bf. She also had
surgery two weeks ago for an unusual condition postpartum, torsion of the
ovary, and was told by anesthesia to pump and dump 24 hrs(grrrrrrh). By
the time I met her she was almost over the 24 hours. I really have to talk
to anesthesia, who knows how many mothers are pumping and dumping
unnecessarily after minor surgeries.
Anyway, my original query regarding the safety of effexor seems to be
divided. a neonatologist I work with said he thought it would be okay but
the obstetrician who prescribed it said no. I think a mom should be sent
to a counselor too or psychiatrist but obs are routinely prescribing
antidepressants i am finding these days. Does anyone have recent data or
experience. At this point, I used the neonatologist recommendations to the
mother and said I would research it further. I believe she is going to
continue nursing for now. Please e-mail me privately or to the list.
TIA,

Where it finally showed some signs of spring today!
