I did get one frantic call from a mother who is exclusively pumping, who
needed an alternative to her electric pump. I had one pedal pump in my
office, and she came by to get it, and we were able to get her 4 mo old
on the breast for a few minutes as well. She went home with the pump
and a determination to try to get him latching some more.
I too feel sorry for the mothers who are formula feeding through all
this. We still don't have our power back, though I hear they are
gradually restoring power throughout NYC to avoid an overload. My 14 yo
daughter just came in and told me that this is yet another reason to
breastfeed! Yup.
Catherine Watson Genna, BS, IBCLC NYC on battery power right now!
