As a LLL-leader I am helping a mother who wanted to stop breastfeeding because of problems with oversupply.
When she contacted me she already had decided to stop bf.
She choose to use Dostinex. I gave her information to stop gradually but she really had it and wanted to stop quickly.
She also has experienced mastitis in one breast.
Child is 6 weeks old.
She took 3 pills so far but she is suffering from engorgement. I told her just to express a little milk to prevent to get mastitis.
Dostinex has L4 in Thomas Hale. Pediatric concerns: Transfer via milk is unkown.
My questions:
How harmfull is the milk if the mother took Dostinex?
If a mother, who took Dostinex, wants to start bf again, how many day's does she have to pump and dump her milk before she can put the baby on the breast again?
Thanks in advance, Marijke Boele
