Hi All,
When I have been in large hotels for conferences (and not a guest of the
hotel - in which case I have gone to my room to pump) I have always tried to
contact the conference coordinator prior to the start of the conference and
explained my need. In the situations when I was able to contact them ahead
of time, I have never had a problem with space, though I have pumped in some
unusual spaces. I always told them I needed someplace "not a bathroom, with
four real walls, an outlet, and a lock on the door." Generally they have
found me a copy room or someone's office that isn't being used, though I was
once in the room where luggage is stored (it does have walls and an outlet
and a lock, and its not a bathroom!) and I was once in a very large linen
closet.
At some conferences and other places away from my usual pumping location I
have also spent many hours in my car, all set up with my silly magazine, NPR
and the air conditioning. Definitely not ideal and preferable for all, but
when my choice is a broom closet or my cozy little car, I'll park away from
others and enjoy my peace and quiet.
-------------
I had to share with all the grandmothers and other friends/relatives of
people old enough to enjoy paper dolls (my daughter has just discovered them
- turned 4 last week) that my daughter received a set of paper dolls for her
birthday of Thomas Jefferson and his family (I have learned more about TJ in
the last week than I did in all of 4th grade!) and lo and behold - one of
the dolls is of his daughter nursing a very large baby, breast out the top
of the dress and everything!
My friend who bought the dolls just couldn't resist buying them when she
flipped through and saw that. The greatest part is that we can't figure out
what the nursling has to do with anything else, other than that there must
have been a stealth bf advocate in the graphics department (each outfit and
doll has a lengthy text description in the beginning and end of the book).
The latch looks good, and the baby is at least 10 months old, if not older.
Also, the text refers to one baby being born *in* the White House - a
presidential home birth ;)
For those that are interested, here's a description of the book
http://store.doverpublications.com/0486270688.html I think my friend got
them at Barnes and Noble or some other 'normal' bookstore.
