>I attended a seminar by Paula Meier last October. When asked if she
gets consents for nipple shield use she said: "What for? The research
proves that the shield does not cause a decrease in milk supply. You
have the research to support this, NOW USE IT!"<
I may have missed earlier discussion, but this caught my eye bacuse I know
that some of Meier's research was funded (at least in part) by pump
companies. What research is there that nipple shields do not cause a
reduction in milk supply and who funded the research? It it was funded by
someone with an interest in the outcome, I would be very hard pressed to use
this alone to base clincial decisions on.
Indeed I was delighted -- and frankly astonished -- to see that the topic of
research funding was the subject of the editorial of the most recent JHL.
