Funny that this should come up today. I was called to see a lady who needed a
pump and was told that "OB didn't like to bring a clean pump to a dirty
floor" as explanation as to why they could not get a pump for her. I asked
how the IV pumps were cleaned to insure that they didn't bring cross
contamination to OUR floor. Blank stare. (we clean our pumps with virex spray
between patients.
Another pumper is finding it difficult to get out of bed to wash pump
parts so I brought her a sample package of wipes that we received from
Medela. However, has anyone read the back of the package? It says "wash hands
after using" the wipes. So I provided a basin of water for her, best I could
do at the time and place. In these instances, I could see that these products
have potential to be useful. And the sterilization bags will help in these
instances too. Could be very useful for premie moms, too.
Just my two cents worth,
