I wrote several days ago about a mother who could express *nothing at all*
at 7 days post-birth, after having had colostrum for a couple days (not sure
if I knew that when I first wrote). She is compromised by both diabetes and
pneumonia.

At 8 days pp, she was able to hand express drops, though the pump would not
extract any. When I spoke with her yesterday, 10 days pp, she was routinely
getting drops when pumping, always enough to moisten her nipple, sometimes
enough to land a drop or two in the flange. An enormous psychological
boost!

As you all recommended, she continues to rest (hampered now by severe back
pain related, she thinks, to all the coughing), and to pump, breastfeed, and
snuggle (all to tolerance). She's also trying to keep her blood sugar a
little higher. She has always kept rigid control over it and has tended, if
anything, toward the low side. We're hoping that a slightly higher blood
sugar will remind her body that she's safe, food is not a concern, and she
"dares" to make food for the baby.
