Hello group;
This is my first posting since getting new Email address. (old one was
<[log in to unmask]>). I have not read of any research based information
beyond the 3-5 months in a deep freezer, depending on the temperature below
Zero. I can speak form a personal experience though.
I happen to be one of those blessed mom's with an over supply. My son now
19yrs, nursed 24-7 for over 6 months and I had to pump for comfort too. By
the time he went through his feeding strike (not help back then to work
through strike). I had an estimated 3-4 gallons of breast milk in my deep
freeze. It was seldom used except for storing Br. milk. When I went to use
it (oldest first of course) it appeared freezer burned. Upon thawing is had
a powdery film and a strange smell like old meat. There was no meat in the
freezer. Some of the milk was stored in glass bottles, some in plastic
"Vol-U-Feeds" and some in bottle bags (double bagged with freezer Zip Lock
bags). It appeared to have broken down in someway. Needles to say I was
heart broken to have to toss all of it. I think Hurricane Hugo had a
helping hand in that too.
Has anyone else seen this type of problem? Always wondered if there was
something I could have done different.
