Greetings,
Cathy asked some questions about LC
services in other hospitals. Here's the information from my hospital:

1. What is your hospital's average census? 350 beds
2. What is the size of your NICU? 18 beds
3. Are there outpt. lactation consultations? Yes
4. Who serves as the program's director? The Director of Maternal Child
Services.
5. Do you bill insurance companies for service, and if so, how is this
done? No... I don't think it's being done in Iowa
6. Any other helpful info you can provide. We have 1.5 FTE's assigned to
Lactation services and we are budgeted through the Regular Nursery budget.
Our hospital has around 1500 deliveries/year. We see outpatients on the
basis of walk-ins and appointments. (Keeps us very busy!) We run a small
Mother-Baby store and frequently do consultations with someone who comes
in "just" to rent/purchase a pump. We are available to see Mothers
throughout the entire Medical Center. On a given day, I may be called to
the ER, Peds, Outpatient Surgical Center, etc. I currently have a BSN
student working with me as an Intern. Have also had University students
spend entire semesters working with us. (Usually Health Education Majors)
I'm beginning to wonder how I can put more hours into each day! :)
