Just wanted everyone to know that the February 2003 issue of "Southern
Medical Association Journal" features two articles of interest.

"Evaluation of a comprehensive Loving Support program among state Women,
Infants, and Children (WIC) program breastfeeding coordinators" tells about
the usefulness of Mississippi's "Loving Support" program and
materials/training programs created on other State WIC Programs around the
country.

"Personal breastfeeding behaviors of female physicians in Mississippi"
describes the breastfeeding practices and barriers of female physicians.
This is interesting in that the study found that although a very high
percentage of female physicians initiate breastfeeding, the duration
drop-off is comparable to the general population, and that the reasons are
similar--employment, low milk supply, and lack of time to pump. Also,
interestingly, this study found that female physicians turn not to their
colleagues for help, but to lactation consultants and nurses, along with
books and other resources.

You can access the journal at: http://www.smajournalonline.org/ Go to
