From a mum who's son has recently had an adenoidectomy, I know we were told
no STRAWS for two weeks. I imagine that is the rationale behind the no
nursing. The suction involved in straw drinking can dislodge the scab and
lead to bleeding.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I knows the difference in pressures
in suckling vs sucking. I would imagine BF pressure to be less because it's
not just suction that moves the milk - are there any papers anywhere that
estimate the negative pressure in a baby's mouth when latched? My only
estimate of the negative pressure in a baby's mouth is how darn hard it is
to dislodge them without breaking the seal first!!
