Naomi asks- Do hospitals have policies about accepting gifts from parties
and not about accepting gifts from companies?

The hospital I work at has a policy not to accept gifts from companies
because it would be a "conflict of interest". Monetary gifts over $25 are to
be given to the hospital's foundation. They then will use those funds to be
given to grant projects. Example:to help community projects like domestic
violence, sexual assault program etc. If a person gives a product it is
labeled (picture, CD player etc as to who gave it)and kept on the unit it
was intended for, if it is food it is consumed by the staff. Gifts to
individuals given by patients could be kept if they aren't over $25. If over
that amount it would be the Foundations or to be shared by all on the unit.
Years ago expensive trips, golf outings were offered in exchange for a unit
using their products. This can no longer happen. It also helped to rid some
staff from asking and receiving cases of formula. Mary Ann Krainz RN, IBCLC
