The study in question is indeed published and is as follows:

O'Connor DL, Hall R, Adamkin D, Auestad N, Castillo M, Connor WE, Connor SL,
Fitzgerald K, Groh-Wargo S, Hartmann EE, Jacobs J, Janowsky J, Lucas A,
Margeson D, Mena P, Neuringer M, Nesin M, Singer L, Stephenson T, Szabo J,
Zemon V; Ross Preterm Lipid Study. "Growth and development in preterm
infants fed long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids: a prospective,
randomized controlled trial." Pediatrics 2001 Aug;108(2):359-71.

You can find this by typing "Auestad" into PubMed:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/. This study is the sixth item on the
search list.

It is possible the study is ongoing and further results will be published.
There is a similar study on term infants reported in the same issue:

Auestad N, Halter R, Hall RT, Blatter M, Bogle ML, Burks W, Erickson JR,
Fitzgerald KM, Dobson V, Innis SM, Singer LT, Montalto MB, Jacobs JR, Qiu W,
Bornstein MH. "Growth and development in term infants fed long-chain
polyunsaturated fatty acids: a double-masked, randomized, parallel,
prospective, multivariate study." Pediatrics 2001 Aug;108(2):372-81.

I've noticed that there seem to be quite a few requests on LACTNET for
research articles where the person requesting doesn't seem to be aware of
PubMed and other online research tools; at least that seems to be the case
when I have corresponded privately with them. (Valerie, I know you probably
know about it; I assume you just forgot this is an easy way to check these
things.)

PubMed is a great tool, it is free, and it covers almost all health related
journals. Investigate its features, learn about Boolean connectors, and you
will find more articles than you ever imagined. Be sure to look at the
Limits function and the Related Articles tool, as well.

But beware -- this activity is highly addictive!

Happy searching,

Barb Strange
