I read up on Lyme dx in Hale "Clinical Therapy in Breastfeeding Patients"
and the 1997 Red Book (AAP). Maybe someone has a more current Red Book at
home. Anyway, "no evidence exists that Lyme dx can be transmitted via human
milk" Redbook states. If there was any real concern I would think the
toddler could also take Amoxicillin. I think cases of mother and baby or
child both being infected at the same time indicates that they were both
exposed to tick bites at the same time! (like a camping trip).
Same old, same old - sacrifice BF on the altar of ignorance :-(
PS: my d-i-l breastfed her infant without any problems while being tx for
Lymes.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
FYI: dx =disease (or sometimes diagnosis) and sx = symptoms and tx=
treatment.
