I used plain old hair spray to get out gentian violet stains. Just spray it
liberally before washing with detergent and a small amount of bleach. It
sometimes took a couple washings to get it all out, but it worked.

The thought of gentian violet brings back memories of my beautiful babies
with blue lips and tongues! My kids' complections run the gamut from very
light complected, where the gentian violet was visible for most of a week,
to rich cocoa brown, which it faded into after a day or two!
