UK government to adopt the WHO's Global Strategy on Infant & Young Child
Feeding. <
Chris, thanks for assessing my letter against Bronner's. I did try to
conform with best BMJ practice as regards references, etc!

I want to emphasise that the reason I called on the *UK* to consider the
gobal strategy and adopt a national strategy on Infant and Young Child
Feeding, is that I live and work here and the BMJ is published here. I know
of no reason that the USA, Canada, or any other country, should not be
considering the Global Strategy. And, imo, if a country rejects provisions
of the GS, they should have a very good reason.

Having read it and spoken about it at breastfeeding study days and at the
Baby Milk Action AGM, I know that I need to keep trying to bring it up and
get others to think about it. A really great first step would be that
everyone in this field of work has *read* it. I know it is 18 pages and not
all of us like to read documents that come from official bodies.....but I
really think we cannot hope to feel that we are up to date in the field of
breastfeeding promotion/support, infant feeding or child health unless we
know what this document says and what the international 'standard' for care.

Anyone who thought that Innocenti, or BFI, or the ILO legislation was
important will want to read how they are supported and updated and placed in
a context in this document.
