I nursed my exclusively breastfed 3-month-old through the chickenpox, which he got from his big brother who was 3.5 yrs at the time. I had had CP as a child and wondered if my antibodies via breastmilk would limit my infant's symptoms. No such luck -- my baby son had a much worse case than my older son. Nursing seemed to be a great comfort to him,..." I always wondered also if my childhood CP gave me antibodies that would protect my kids through breastmilk ... and it seemed to, in my case. My oldest had CP in 1st grade - and my nursing 18 mo old did Not get CP --- til he was in 1st grade. Then my nursing 2 1/2 yr old also did Not get CP -- and never has. (they are all grown now) I wonder if it was because my 'nurslings' were close to 2 yrs old when exposed and were also providing some of their own antibodies at this time? Guess I'll leave that to the reasearchers to figure out!
