Frank and Donna thank you for your responses but I still need clarification.
I have heard that to get a therapeutic level of Zoloft one would need to take
it for at least 4 weeks and then may need to make adjustments. Is this true
of all or most of the SSRI's? Is this true if someone is on Prozac and then
switches to Zoloft?
If the answer is yes to these questions, then wouldn't it be to the benefit
of the mother's mental health to switch her in pregnancy or just prior if she
is planning on getting pregnant than to do the switch postpartum, when a
woman is more vulnerable?
Frank, when you wrote that a mother who is on Prozac for a long period of
time and it is working well for her, she should continue this pp and monitor
the baby, correct? I would like to offer this option if no other drugs seem
to work for a woman but I would love to hear from Tom Hale on this. Is Tom
saying that a woman would have to use formula if Prozac is the only drug that
works for her?
I'd love to get this straightened out.
