Jan says,

"While you can probably get a pharmacy to make them up, you can also
take the
caplets, divide them into quarters, crush the quarter caplet and mix
with
breastmilk or water to make a slurry which you can give to the baby
prior to
a feed. It works fine, and while not nearly as convenient as the
drops, will
do in a pinch. I'm not sure how much a pharmacy would charge to make
the
drops. Seems to me all the lactaid caplets are the same strength...."

I'm a daily user of lactase enzyme caplets (such as Lactaid) as I have a
severe lactose intolerance. When Lactaid first became available as an over
the counter product, the caplets were all of the same strength. Now, I'm
sitting here with five different bottles in front of me, all different
brands with different strengths. Two brands have strengths of 3 caplets =
9,000 FCC Lactase Enzyme units. Two other brands have strengths of 2 caplets
= 9,000 FCC Lactase Enzyme units. One brand has strength of 1 caplet = 9,000
FCC Lactase Exzyme units. It can be very confusing for the user.

As a consumer I tend to purchase the higher strength caplets so I'm not
having to take so many at a time. But it also depends on availability and
price. There are many brands out there now and in most cases the local
brands are less expensive than the Lactaid brand.

I find that finding relief from the side effects of lactose intolerance is
very different from person to person. It's a process of experimentation with
foods and the lactase enzyme.

Hope this helps more than confuses.
