Dear Friends:
The hospital, and much of health services, would loose money if babies
were exclusively breastfed. In 2003, we are now dealing with an entrenched
system that thrives on pathology. There is no money in wellness, except in
the health systems that are considered "complementary" or "alternative".
(Which makes me laugh, for many of these other systems are thousands of years
older than allopathy.)
An example of this happened to a skater I know. Carolyn fell and broke
her clavicle. (Occupational hazard for adults learning to skate, which is why
I wear a sacral pad, wrist guards, knee pads and a thick furry hat). It was a
simple fracture and healed easily and well. Her orthopedist encouraged her to
consider surgery anyway. She had sense enough to say "Why?" and refuse.

Now why would a physician even bring up such a thing, unless there is an
underlying need for income?
How many women allow themselves to have a labor induced, just because it
was recommended by a physician? No one questions this, yet I would bet at
least 90% of recommendations made in obstetrics are all for the things that
generate income.
