With much respect to my fellow Lactnetters,

On the subject of Egypt and breastfeeding. I think that unless one can find
some references that Egyptians did indeed breastfeed, we cannot assume they
did. And as I recall, civilizations throughout history have tried to find
many ways to replace breastmilk, concocting all sorts of crazy creations.
If my memory serves me correctly, there have been suggestions made in
academia that there were indeed nursemaids and supplements in during some
periods in ancient Egypt. This post would be much more helpful if I could
point you to some references, maybe someone else on the list would be able
to enlighten us more?

Sincerely,
Nikki Simmons, (closet anthropologist)
