Kathy,

Hopefully during that 10 minutes their interest will be sparked and they will
ask you to F/U with a comprehensive presentation.

On the topic of volume and issue of routine supplements; ask them how big a
newborns' stomach is, ....since they are residents they should have an
accurate answer that you can then expand on. This gets them involved and
points out that they do have (at least some) basic knowledge relevant to Bf.

My usual spiel about this is "colostrum breastmilk is concentrated, packed
with protein and antibodies, tailor made for a newborn who's stomach is the
size of a walnut, who needs frequent opportunities to learn to breastfeed
getting teaspoons of colostrum breastmilk in the first days."

Another option for your 10 minutes is to give a 5 minute talk and spend the
other answering questions. "What questions about Bf have you been wondering
about or that I can answer for you today?"

It will then be clear to everyone that they want and need more extensive info
and you are the person to provide it.

If interested, my outline for FP residents is in the LN archives.

Feel free to print, copy, and hand out the below cited outline and quiz for
"<A HREF="www.BestBreastfeeding.Info">Planning For Breastfeeding Success</A>" that they can have on hand to give their
patients as a not-too-overwhelming starting point in pt Bf education.
