I talked to a very nice young woman today about her severely cracked
nipples. She has been nursing for 3 months, no problems. Second baby,
first one nursed for over a year. This baby has gained wonderfully. He
started teething this month, no teeth, no changes in latch really. All of a
sudden both nipples started to crack very bady. She is now pumping and
feeding expressed milk and nursing at times. She has seen three doctors,
the last one recommended super glue and talked to the other community
lactation consultant.
I asked about yeast, no symptoms for either of them. I sent her Dr. Jack's
nipple ointment recipe and told her which pharmacy could fill it and just in
case it is a saliva issue, thought she could wipe the baby's mouth out
before feeding.
I told the woman that I would ask the experts I knew. So if anyone has any
ideas, please let me know.
